The Hall ’s Management Committee are very sad to announce the recent
death of Chris Trevan.
I first met Chris when a committee was formed to purchase Townshend Hall.
Chris was then working for Cornwall Council and clearly had experience of
dealing with funding and building work. A perfect asset for a village hall
which of course was what he became.
Without Chris I doubt we would have secured a Heritage Lottery Grant to
fund the remedial building work the hall required. He managed the actual
building work admirably. Over the years he was instrumental in the applica
tions for several grants which allowed the hall to purchase many items such
as the cooker and the film equipment.
His eye for detail and quiet insistence that all regulations were considered
and followed was an immense asset, under his stewardship the hall was
maintained to a high standard, never short of funds and well run.
Beyond Townshend he was a source of great tales, many from the early
years of his life and all amusing and interesting. He seemed to have some
thing to contribute whatever the topic from the perils of dropping asleep on a
tube train to the consequences of inadequate building regulations, his ability
as a raconteur was exceptional. His support for me over the years was un
wavering and for that I am very grateful.
In recent years his health meant he had to step down from village life, apart
from his duties as Chair he was a keen Friday night bowler and enjoyed
many a film night.
I will miss him as I am sure will so many others in our local area.
